How to Choose the Best ONT for Village Springs-Net Fiber Optic Internet
Thank You for choosing to connect to Springs-Net! Springs-Net utilizes a Passive Optical Network (PON) as the last part of the Internet that reaches your home or business. To join Springs-Net will involve installing a fiber optic cable to an accessible location outside of your building. This involves running a fiber cable to that outside junction box and then installing another fiber cable to an “ONT” located inside your building. Typically this is located where other utilities enter your building. It is important to locate the ONT near an electrical receptacle as well as considering placement for the best WiFi experience.
ONT stands for Optical Network Terminal. The ONT is a path to the Internet for fiber technology just like a cable modem is the outlet for a coaxial cable Internet connection. It is a device that communicates directly with an Internet service provider (ISP) to get a fiber-optic Internet connection in your home or business and direct it to an Ethernet connection or Wi-Fi or both. The ONTs that the village will be utilizing should look like one of the pictures below:
If you have an existing router, either wireless or wired, you should check to see that it will handle the data speed of your new fiber connection.(300 Mbps or 1 Gbps.) You should make sure that your existing wireless router utilizes Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) or Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) otherwise you will not get the speed you might expect. Springs-Net is offering two DZS ONT models for your selection.
